Frankincense and Cancer Prevention
Frankincense (Boswellia carteri) may be a good candidate for
prevention of cancer and cancer metastasis. A study done by Zhao et al.
(2003) published in Cancer Detection and Prevention found that a
substance called BC-4, an isomeric compound isolated from Boswellia
carteri, may reduce cancerous cell production and metastasis (spread of
cancerous cells from one part of the body to another).

Helichrysum italicum
is a plant found in dry, sandy areas of the Mediterranean and is known
for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-microbial properties.
Several studies have evaluated these relationships, and results are
overwhelmingly positive. In a study done by Nostro et al. (2001) they
looked at inhibitory effect on growth of Staphylococcus aureus with
Helichrysum italicum. They found that Helichrysum italicum did inhibit
growth of S. aureus and several of its enzymes. Also, Sala et al. (2002)
determined in vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory and antioxidant
activities with Helichrysum italicum. This study concluded inflammatory
enzyme inhibition, free-radical scavenging activity, and corticoid-like
effects determined the anti-inflammatory effects of Helichrysum italicum.
